Education Director
Smithbucklin
Alexis Kolak serves as director, Education & Learning Services at Smithbucklin. In this role, Alexis specializes in helping healthcare, technology, and scientific organizations reimagine their year-round education programs and conference education delivery. This includes everything from creating new, revenue-generating products, to enhancing existing conferences through aiding them in diversifying their curriculum and delivery methodologies.
Alexis’ experience in revitalizing programming includes identifying educational needs, recommending delivery methods, and maximizing profitability. After quickly pivoting multiple conferences to virtual events in 2020 and 2021, Alexis worked with the Program Committee for the 2022 HFES conferences to proactively seek out content to improve the value proposition for attendees; the resulting conferences had registration numbers returning to or exceeding 2019 actuals. In 2022, Alexis led a team of technology specialists to transition eight associations to new learning management platforms; modernizing the user experience; and providing new opportunities to develop and grow year-round educational offerings and revenue.
Throughout her career, Alexis has remained focused on finding ways to improve education by utilizing technology and is especially passionate about how better data collection and analytics can improve future programming. Alexis’ interest in revitalizing education extends to utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to improve future programming. She advocates for the thoughtful, intentional use of technologies to create value for organizations and members and is a member of the team at Smithbucklin working to incorporate accessibility best practices into all digital offerings.
Alexis holds bachelor’s degrees in both English and psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is earning a master's in Business Analytics from the University of Maryland.
